Year 12 Timeline task

Media timeline   The brief  Consider the development of the media landscape from the earliest beginnings in this country (no need to go back further than the first national newspaper in the 18th century) and draw up a timeline of significant events, e.g. first radio broadcast. Cover film, radio, television, newspaper, magazines and advertising, and concentrate on the last 100 years, with most detail about the last 20 years. Reflect on the development of different media forms and industries, including music, online media and contemporary forms of media consumption. The format This is entirely up to you, but it does need to be suitable to upload on to your blog, where I will be marking it. Consider what is most useful for you; what will help you revise? Is it pictorial? Moving image? How can you create something that will support your studies across all the units of work we undertake? WE-MEDIA AND DEMOCRACY ESSENTIAL CASE STUDY: CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA

If you haven't noticed the most significant development in the culmination of all the debates around We-Media and Democracy, is taking place LIVE and NOW. It will appear strange to examiners if you aren't making reference to this as a case study in your essay. Here are the articles exploring the role of the organisation Cambridge Analytica and it's compiling and harvesting of personal data on behalf of its clients. It also explores the subsequent impact on the 2016 American Elections, 'Brexit' Referendum and politics as we understand it. This topic covers everything we have discussed from; privacy, hacking, target marketing, voting, freedom of speech, 'clicktivism', hegemony, cultural change, the 'echo chamber', cognitive bias/dissonance, audience expectations, consent and everything else.
