WE-MEDIA AND DEMOCRACY ESSENTIAL CASE STUDY: CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA

If you haven't noticed the most significant development in the culmination of all the debates around We-Media and Democracy, is taking place LIVE and NOW.

It will appear strange to examiners if you aren't making reference to this as a case study in your essay.

Here are the articles exploring the role of the organisation Cambridge Analytica and it's compiling and harvesting of personal data on behalf of its clients. It also explores the subsequent impact on the 2016 American Elections, 'Brexit' Referendum and politics as we understand it.

This topic covers everything we have discussed from; privacy, hacking, target marketing, voting, freedom of speech, 'clicktivism', hegemony, cultural change, the 'echo chamber', cognitive bias/dissonance, audience expectations, consent and everything else.

Please spend time reading, reviewing, reflecting and watching the story as it unfolds. Look out for traditional media bias  (liberal and otherwise) and keep an open mind about how you will relate it to our topic of study. This forms the basis for next week's lessons.
