WELCOME TO WE-MEDIA

As we embark on our study of We-Media, it is essential that you are undertaking regular and vigorous independent learning.

The expectation in Year 13 is that wider reading and research and a total immersion in the matters of We-Media and Democracy are a given.

Tools you have:

  •   The reading list given to you at the start of the course. Please ask for an additional copy if you need one
  •   The shared drive. Lessons, handouts and additional research is all available on here.
  •  The LRC. Look at the Social Sciences section, this is where you will find the topic.
  •   Other libraries. There are so many books written about amateur and 'citizen' media, the power of groups, assumptions of media democracy and media and power.
  •   All media. Approach your media consumption as critics and not passive audience members. Find your own examples of We-Media and Democracy in action.
  •   Traditional media. The topic of online and social media (both events and the psychology of it) is a popular topic for traditional media reporting: recommendations for long reads come from : Huffington Post, The Atlantic, The Guardian, The Times, the i.
  •   Twitter: We-media theorists such as Clay Shirky use the tools they write about, to share their views. Follow them.
  •   TED. There are myriad TED talks on the topics of We-Media and Democracy.
